Industry nowadays is based on two strategic goals: cost reduction and sales. Companies are focused on selling more and cheaper.

The principle is not bad. The problem comes when these two goals are achieved reducing quality.

Bad quality standards and programmed obsolescence are integrated in almost every business. Customers are already involved in this game and accept to buy low cost products to use and throw in every sector: household appliances, clothing, food, everything.

My grandmother said: “to save money, you must cook healthy food and wear expensive cloths” This is absolutely true.

Processed food is expensive and un healthy. Simple food properly cooked is better for health and much more economic.

I still have an extraordinary raincoat I bought 20 years ago. It was expensive but the number of days I've used it, makes it cheap. Quality cloths have extraordinary design, so fahion is not an excuse.

When I was a child, my parents bought a washing machine that lasted 25 years. Now, we must change household appliances every five years.

Programmed obsolesce is harmful for society: We generate a huge amount of waste materials very difficult to process. Energy used in industry is excessive. Pollution is not under control.

CEO’s at companies argue that they need sales volume to maintain work force and profit. That is not true.

Going back to a quality industry based on durable goods is socially desirable. Prices would raise but in long term, total cost of utilization would be less. Production would be reduced in terms of quantity but increased in quality. If this makes a minor workforce need, on the other hand, service labor workers would increase and compensate it.

Less energy used to produce goods, less environmental effect, better quality products to be used and enjoyed.
